Cathay Pacific to fly to Moscow

Cathay Pacifi c Airways has announced plans to fl y to Moscow.

Subject to regulatory approval, Cathay Pacifi c plans to

operate a thrice-weekly service to Moscow using an Airbus A340-

300 aircraft in a two-class confi guration featuring Cathay Pacifi c’s

acclaimed long-haul Business Class product. The intended new

service is planned to begin this summer. Cathay currently has

a codeshare arrangement on the Hong Kong-Moscow route with

Aeroflot.

 

Korean Air resumes St Petersburg services

12 Feb 10 (TravMedia.com): Korean Air will resume services to St. Petersburg as from March 30, the beginning of the summer season in the northern hemisphere. The Incheon -St. Petersburg flights will operate three times a week- Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday - utilizing an Airbus 330 aircraft seating 226 passengers. KE929 departs Seoul/Incheon at 17:45pm and arrives in St. Petersburg at 22:20pm the same day. The return flight KE930 departs St. Petersburg at 23:50pm for an overnight flight that arrives at Seoul/Incheon at 13:30pm the next day.

Passenger numbers to St. Petersburg are expected to increase in earnest from June and they will all be able to appreciate Korean Air’s state-of-the-art AVOD (Audio Video On Demand) System which will be equipped in all three classes by then.

A major transport hub, St. Petersburg is referred to as “the Northern Capital” of Russia and is known as the city of culture and art. The White Nights Festival is an annual international cultural event and the city is also home to the famous Hermitage Museum, one of the largest museums in the world. Korean Air, known for its support of arts and culture, has been sponsoring the multimedia guide service at the museum since last June.

By resuming the Incheon - St. Petersburg route during the summer season, Korean Air expects to provide more options and greater flexibility for passengers travelling to Russia and Northern Europe.

Mount Kinabalu enters Guinness World Records

(Hong Kong – 9 February 2010) – Adding to the already diverse and exciting offerings in Malaysia, one of Mount Kinabalu’s via ferrata, Low’s Peak Circuit, was officially certified by the Guinness World Records as the world’s highest mountain path this past December.

The announcement ceremony was held on 15 December 2009, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The Guinness World Records certificate was presented to YBrs. Tuan Haji Azizan Noordin, Deputy Director General (Planning) Tourism Malaysia by a representative from Mountain Torq Sdn Bhd, the company that operates Mount Kinabalu’s via ferrata.

“Malaysia is well-known as an exciting eco-adventure destination, offering rainforests, diving and mountaineering adventures at a UNESCO World Heritage site. The addition of this accolade from the Guinness World Records will increase Sabah and Malaysia’s attractiveness as one of the top-of-mind destinations in the world,” said Madam Zaliha Zainuddin, Director of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (Hong Kong Office).

A via ferrata is a mountain path comprising of a series of rungs, rails and cables that are set into the rock face. Mountain Torq’s record-breaking via ferrata, Low’s Peak Circuit, begins at 3,411 metres and ends at 3,776 metres. Located in the state of Sabah, Malaysia, Mount Kinabalu stands at a height of 4095 metres.

Mountain Torq currently operates two via ferrata on Mount Kinabalu. For seasoned climbers, the company offers the Low’s Peak Circuit while the Walk the Torq route is designed for novice climbers and families with members aged 10 and above. Approximately 5,000 people have completed the routes to date.

There are more than 300 via ferrata worldwide, predominantly in Italy, Germany, and France.
